Baseball Cards Price

A single mom of 8yr boy desperately needs help on understanding baseball card pricing guides. Please help?

I have organized the cards he picked up at a flea market by using baseball collection explorer. I have also printed a price guide from tuff stuff website. I know the cards are worthless he gave .50 for bundles of 100 and he got 3 packs of these. But I am trying my best to do this with him. On the software it has a column for the "set". Is this his personal number or were the cards made in sets. I have no clue of how to help him.

1. Go to upperdeck.com. Under 'sports trading cards', click on 'tips on collecting'. It is a fun hobby and it can last a life time. It can also be expensive, but if your lucky and come across a high value card you might be able to sell it, so you can buy more cards. I have a few million extra cards that I wouldn't mind selling.
2. Honestly, I think you would be better off saying sayonara to pricing guides and let ebay be your guide. THAT's reality. In addition, I think you might find that some older cards are more affordable than you thought... I'm 37, and I remember the day I walked into a baseball card shop when I was about 10 and bought a 1971 Johnny Bench for $3. It was so cool... you now can do that kind of thing on ebay, and not pay an arm and a leg for it. To check prices on ebay... you need to have an id/password; then, on the bottom left there are search options... just click on 'completed' and you'll get a feel for what cards are selling for (or not selling for).
