No blood for oil? Why not?
When is the last time you have seen a Native American? Most black people you see are here because their ancestors were enslaved and their work used to make other people rich. I do not like the idea of killing other people to take their resources but it is nothing new. So I ask again. Are you willing to starve when your neighbor has an abundance of bread or will you take it? We all want to be goody goody and we all say we are so enlightened we could not drive a car that is fueled by blood but be honest with yourself. Is blood money and blood oil really any different than anything else we have in America? How many kids died from exhaustion stitching your Calvin Klein jeans? How many Latin American folks died of sunstroke picking your salmonella infected tomatoes? If I came to your house right now and told you I killed 30,000 foreigners and this act would allow us to have $1.00 a gallon gas, most of you would be lined up to buy my fuel. Is this not true? Are you sure?

- It shouldn't surprise anyone that we're doing this war for oil, for Gods sake we killed like 100 million indians and fought wars with every neighboring country
- It seems that all those questions are rhetorical? Well, whatever I agree with you.
- Well, that's capitalism. We've outsourced our exploitation, so the pretty boys up in the states don't have to see it. Even though a third of the world lives below the poverty line, 30,000 children die of poverty a year, One billion people couldn't read entering the new year (2000), we don't have to see all that. Everything we do is stained with blood. Welcome to the global market.
- Are you willing to go to Iraq and die for oil? Are you willing to send your child to die in Iraq so you can save money on gas? Aren't there alternative options for energy then to kill poor people just to save a buck?
- If an oil company formed an army killed 30,000 people and took over a country that produced oil then sold gas for a dollar a gallon, while the other companies stayed at 4 dollars a gallon. Well then everyone would buy the 1 dollar a gallon gas and claim they refused to do business with the bad oil company. Me, I would be in line for the cheap stuff.
- Though my concious is saying no, my mind and my common sense are saying yes. I've read these things from certain articles that most people ignore because they wish not to learn the truth. If we want something, there's always something else that is sacrificed.
- When is the last time you have seen a Native American? just now when I washed my face, I have no Calvin Klein jeans, I buy local foods and don't shop at big chains often. I ride my bike when ever possible, and I have no plan to kill you for profit and if I have food and you don't, ask I'll feed you...I'm a human.
- While I agree with you about people tending to have selective memory where history is concerned, as well as the reality of our consumer lifestyle, some of your analogies are a bit shaky. There's no comparison between the war in Iraq, the rationales for which have all been discredited (no WMD, no credible link between Iraq and 9/11, and therefore no "grave and gathering threat") and whether or not we'd take our neighbor's bread if we were starving. Moreover, you come across as being more than a tad smug and condescending. Are you not part of the consumer-driven society that you seem to be decrying? Are we to understand that all of the products and services you use are provided by people with a heartfelt commitment to human rights and ethical labor laws?
- Its true, i would buy your gas. Its a dog eat dog world. Kindness is nice when you're helping an old lady across the street or helping someone pick up something they dropped, but lets face it...when its them or you, you're always looking out for number one! Those of you who dont buy it, well sux for you more for me! Nothing great was ever done in this world without blood being shed, sadly its just facts and it wont change. There is always someone waiting to stab you in the back...so be smart, be an @$$hole, because i can guarantee you that everyone else is!
- I bet we could come up with a car that was fueled by blood. Think of all the cool names. The Nissan Nosferatu. Dodge Dracula. Honda Hemoglobin. Jaguar Jugular. Where do I sign up to buy one?
- The problem is that you are falsely buying into a lie. Most people who are willing to kill other people are too ignorant to figure out an alternative path, you fit into that same degree of ignorance. 1) You have oil, you have it here, your government refuses to dig for it, that has nothing to do with arabs. 2.) You have alternative resources available to you and alternative sources of energy, your countrymen are just too greedy to employ it, this has nothing to do with arabs. 3) You personally (US) continue to flip off your neighbor and drive these big azz SUV's because YOU can afford it and YOU don't give a fck about anyone else. We don't try to save energy in the U.S. instead we compete to see who can use it up the fastest.... this is not about Arabs or killing your fellow mankind and stealing his resources. It's about us!
- "Is this not true?" No. " Are you sure?" Yes. BTW, your "avatar", or whatever you call it, kind of looks like the Devil. Is this an artistic rendering of your own visage?
- Wow. Finally someone gets it. Nothing is free. And until we have equal human rights across the board, Religon is taken out of government (worldwide), and start bumping off more dictators so we can get WWIII started, your jeans and shoes and soccer balls will continue to be made of blood. You can close your eyes if you want, but this is the history of the world. You want change? The Only change Obama is bringing will be higher taxes and Socialism. More of the same, but with less press coverage. You will feel better sleeping once they start feeding you the lies that all Socialist governments do...anybody up for some Soylent Green?
- didn't you already ask this question but way less "ranty"? you obviously are willing to trade a moral conscience for cheap commodities, but i'm not. i'm pretty sure my neighbor is an 80 year old man that lives alone, i brought him a cake on his birthday. we would share the bread, and we would be hungry together, but we wouldn't starve. i don't wear calvin klein, and i'll let you know that the biggest sweat shop in the world is in the garment district in new york and it employs 300,000 illegal workers. why don't you look up the stats on sunstroke, i doubt its fatal very often. it sounds like most of what you just mentioned is perpetrated by your own government. by the way, if you came to my house, i would likely call the police.
- just yesterday i went shopping and i just needed some cheap stuff. I didn't want to go to walmart, but then where? the bass shoe outlet? no better i'm sure. I ended up going to the mall and getting old nazy flip flops 5$ and designer shorts on sale at macy's. I didn't want to buy none of it but i do like my shorts. I don't want to drive but I work 20 miles away and have to get to the mall for designer shorts. I don't think we have to starve nor do i think our neighbor has an abundance. You suggest yourself they are being exploited and worked to death. We need to find the equitable range where they have workers rights even if we may not be as rich as we are. One way or another it seems we must make a transition and curb our 'evil ways' before we find ourselves diseased and run down from too much hard living. As a consumer it seems we don't have much choice as the corporations are all guilty of the same things. clothes from martha stewarts sweat shop or clothes from imperi corps sweat shop.
- To paraphrase Groucho Marx ( I must be an Obama supporter, right? After all I'm quoting Marx): "I've never met a person I would want to kill for some oil....but in your case, I'll make an exception."
- and what are you doing against this?
