How to go in the upper deck of a plane for free?
I am 15 and flying from Toronto to Paris, then Sofia, with an Air France 747. The upper deck is not first class, it's economy. 30 hours before check in when you can pick your seats, can I pick the upper deck? Or do i have to show up early at the airport and request a seat upstairs? Also, is there a way to get bumped to first class for free? Im 15 and flying alone.

- the only way to get free upgrades is to be a frequent flyer (by flying on like 50 flights a year) if the free upgrades are not taken by the frequent flyers, they will sell them for $500 a seat. personally, i don't like the upper deck because it's walls are more curved and it's more cramped. it's private, but too small! ask the gate agent to change your seat or do it via an airport kiosk
- It never hurts to ask. They might let you do a space available upgrade for a fee or they may upgrade you in order to open up another economy seat for a stand-by passenger. Call them and ask 24 hours ahead of the flight, ask when you check in, ask at the customer service desk on the way to your gate and ask again at the gate. However, transatlantic flights are quite difficult to get upgraded to business class on. I've only been upgraded twice on a transatlantic flight. There's also a first class on the Transatlantic flights, heaven only knows what service you get there.
