To become rich & successful, do you think a female should be good looking besides smart?

KEEP READING! ! I'm curious about this. I am a young female, studious & smart. Currently, I don't know what I would like to do career-wise: it may be psychology or my real dream would be to work as a Photographer for David Yurman, Calvin Klein, or The Gap. My question is: what really helps to become successful; is it knowing the right people? Does looking beautiful (being fit & wearing flattering clothes) really help? I look almost like Penelope Cruz. I am full Italian, and people say that I look very Italian/European.

  1. unfortunately, yes
  2. to get your dream job, you need the talent & the connections .
  3. I dont think she should be, but in this society those with brians and beauty are seen as more successful
  4. I dont think you have to be beautiful (i dont know what your definition of beautiful is though) but im sure it helps in that kind of business. Best of luck :D
  5. Lol your KEEP READING sign made me keep going I think that it should be the other way around. you should look nice ( as in clean , fresh, appropriate) but you must be smart and that. So if you want to acheive your goals, go for it!
  6. I think it depends on your career. To succeed in an academic field you do not to be attractive to be rich and successful, just intelligent and studious. Attractiveness does help in progressing up in the career ladder, but credentials count for much much more. You cannot get into Harvard Law or a medical school just because you're pretty. You need to have intelligent before beauty. Being unattractive has no benefit whereas being pretty has benefits. You cannot be penalized just because you are not attractive.
  7. No, and especially not if you are behind the camera. Focusing on academics is what you want to achieve your goals. Looks will fade so if you have a career based on looks be ready to reinvent your life at 30 or get lots of surgery.
  8. I think you should stop worrying about being rich and successful and think about being happy and alive. There are more things in life besides being rich. You need to find a job doing things that you enjoy. The money will come. The success will come. Just concentrate on being happy everyday and bringing joy to others. Good Luck...
  9. If you have confidence and charisma and courage and strength, I really don't believe that someone like that will ever be ugly. Although, it is essential that you dress properly (T-shirts at home, suits at meetings, dresses at formal gatherings and such) according to your body type. Even fat women can be beautiful if they actually tried.
  10. Yes, having good looks sometimes gives you the edge. It also helps to know the right people.
  11. Remember how fat Oprah was? If you work hard enough and don't give up you can be successful. And unfortunately, it is more often WHO you know instead of WHAT you know. Most jobs people get are from people they know, not answering an ad.
  12. I am a big believer that anybody can be successful - it's not down to what you look like or how fit you are (although I believe in doing your best to look after yourself & look nice) it's all about your attitude and self belief. I have seen people from all walks of life achieving great things and being really successful because they worked hard, believed in themselves and had surrounded themselves with awesome people who encouraged them too! I'm not saying that there will never be opposition and yes some people may favor a person with good looks over one without but never let that stop you! And yes networking is important - the key to success is in your relationships no matter how small. Choose what you want to do and go for it!
  13. Well the most important thing is that you are smart, and good at your job, but looks are important, well it's not just about what you look like physically, but your clothes and make up, your appearance is even more important if you want to be a photagrapher, you need to show you've got style, an eye for pretty things... But networking, having good contacts is perhaps even more important.
